Clinical significance:
Changes in the concentration of G-17 can be used to identify different types of atrophic gastritis.Elevated levels of G-17 are suggestive of atrophic gastritis in the elderly, gastric cancer, atrophic gastric body gastritis, functional dyspepsia in the elderly, and duodenal bulb ulcers.
Decreased G-17 levels suggestive of atrophic gastric sinus gastritis, multifocal atrophy of the whole stomach.
Main clinical applications:
1. Responds to high or low stomach acid;
2.Suggests the location, extent and risk of gastric mucosal atrophy;
3.Guidance on the rational use of medications, such as proton pump preparations (PPIs) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
